Kavitha announced her exit from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), saying she was “happy to leave an unethical BRS” and vowed to return to public life as a strong political force. In what she indicated was the last speech as MLC in the present House on Monday (January 5, 2026), as she has already submitted her resignation from the post in September, 2025, she levelled serious allegations against the BRS and its leadership and claimed that the party acted without constitutional spirit by framing an eight-page constitution — which was a joke. In an emotional address in the Council, where she also broke down, she accused the BRS of suspending her without an opportunity to explain her stand. Lack of ethics, constitutional spirit and internal democracy are the hallmarks of the BRS, she alleged. She swore in the name of God and her children that her struggle was for self-respect and not for assets or positions. Joined Telangana agitation in 2006 Recounting her political journey, Ms. Kavitha said she joined the Telangana movement in 2006, inspired by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and late ideologue Prof. Jayashankar. Through Telangana Jagruthi, she worked to protect Telangana culture, document its history and fight for the rights of all. Political debut in 2014 Ms Kavitha said she never intended to enter electoral politics, but accepted the Nizamabad Lok Sabha ticket in 2014 after careful thought. Alleging that the BRS failed to live up to the expectations of people, she said she had questioned policy decisions like the contract job system in government, removal of Dharna Chowk, arrests of farmers, corruption in major public projects and substandard constructions. But all these led to her marginalisation within the party. Ms. Kavitha alleged that Telangana activists were neglected, pensions denied, and even veterans of the 1969 movement went unrecognised. She said the promise of “water, funds and appointments” was gradually diluted. She said she opposed the renaming of TRS to BRS, alleging that the shift was at the cost of Telangana’s interests. Referring to her relationship with KCR, she said being his daughter gave her the courage to question him directly. Ms. Kavitha said she fought the BJP relentlessly and faced imprisonment and prolonged ED and CBI cases alone for three years due to political vendetta, without the solidarity expected from the near and dear ones.
