Karnataka MLA Laxman Savadi, his son, and followers booked for assault of DCC bank worker

The Athani police registered a FIR against MLA and Congress leader Laxman Savadi, his son Chidanand Savadi and his followers on charges of allegedly assaulting a union leader from the District Central Cooperative Bank.

As per the FIR, the MLA abused Ningaraj Karennavar and slapped him at the MLA‘s residence in Athani in Belagavi district on January 3, 2026. His son Chidanand Savadi kicked him on his hips, as per the FIR.

The FIR also says around 6-8 persons brutally assaulted him, leading to serious injuries. Mr. Karennavar, who has been admitted to a private hospital in Belagavi, filed a complaint with the police.

He claimed that the MLA summoned him to his house, accused him of orchestrating the transfer of a DCC bank employee who was related to the MLA and insulted him. He was later attacked by the MLA, his son, and a few supporters.

A case has been registered under sections 189(2), 191(2), 115(2), 351(2), 352(2)1 90 of the BNS Act for unlawful assembly, assault, threatening life, and abusing me with obscene words. The case has been registered at Athani Police Station in Belgaum .

Meanwhile, some supporters of the MLA have filed a complaint against Mr. Karennavar, accusing the latter of using abusive slurs against a member of the Scheduled Caste community.

A case has been registered under the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
