Warner Bros. is developing a feature film set in the world of Game of Thrones, with writer Beau Willimon attached to pen the screenplay. The project remains in early development and plot details have not been officially confirmed.

Willimon is known for creating the political drama House of Cards and for his recent work on the Andor series. His involvement marks one of the first major steps toward bringing George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe to the big screen.

The original Game of Thrones series, which aired on HBO between 2011 and 2019, became one of the most successful television productions in recent history. Based on the novels by George R. R. Martin, the show followed multiple noble families battling for control of the Iron Throne in the fictional continent of Westeros.

While the storyline for the film has not been revealed, earlier reports have suggested that a potential narrative could center on the legendary Targaryen ruler Aegon I, who forged the Iron Throne and established the Targaryen dynasty. Warner Bros. has not confirmed whether the film will explore that period.

The Game of Thrones universe has continued to expand on television since the flagship series concluded. The prequel House of the Dragon focuses on the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, while A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire.

A theatrical adaptation set in Westeros has been discussed for years. Earlier in the franchise’s run, the original showrunners explored the idea of concluding the series with feature-length films, though the concept was not pursued at the time.
