Police arrest Bhatkal man for his inflammatory post

The Mangaluru City Police on Tuesday arrested Shankar Mathappa Moger, 35, of Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district for his alleged inflammatory post on social media, threatening an explosion in front of Ullal Masjid.

The Ullal Police registered the case on Monday for offences under Sections 196 (2) (promoting enmity between different groups), 197 (2) (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 353 (2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The screenshot of the post was widely circulated on social media, and a demand was made for the immediate arrest of the accused.
