Cadets being honoured on stage alongside dignitaries during the diploma award ceremony at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai on Tuesday. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement As many as 350 cadets belonging to the first batch of a Diploma programme in Information Technology and Cyber Security, a course jointly curated by the SRM Institute of Technology (SRMIST) and Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, passed out of the OTA on Tuesday. The course was designed to integrate technological competence with military training, with experienced faculty members and technical experts from SRMIST delivering the curriculum in close coordination with OTA authorities, a press release stated. Sixteen graduands of the cohort from among 321 were male and 29 female cadets secured ranks. The one-year course focused on fundamentals of IT, network security, secure systems design, cyber hygiene, incident response, and emerging areas such as cyber warfare, artificial intelligence applications, and information assurance. The course delivery included classroom instruction, laboratory work, exercises, project, and continuous assessments designed around realistic operational scenarios. Lt. Gen. Michael A.J. Fernandez, Commandant, OTA, said the introduction of structured IT and Cyber Security education within the training framework significantly enhanced the professional competence of officer cadets in contemporary digital battlespace. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST, said that the security of the country was managed as much through a computer screen as on the ground and the completion of the course for the first batch was not merely an academic milestone but a strategic reinforcement of the national shield.
