Ride-hailing platform Uber has secured the renewal of its transport aggregator licence from the Karnataka State Transport Authority (KSTA), enabling it to continue operations in the State under the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregator Rules, 2016. The renewed licence is valid for five years, from December 31, 2021 to December 30, 2026, allowing the company to operate its services across Karnataka, according to a statement by Uber on March 3. In the statement, an Uber spokesperson said the company was pleased to receive the Transport Aggregator Licence in Karnataka, describing the State as one of its key markets in India. “This licence reflects our continued commitment to serving riders and drivers across the State. We remain focused on working closely with the government to strengthen a safe, reliable and technology-led mobility ecosystem for urban mobility,” the spokesperson stated. Uber entered the Indian market in 2013 and has since expanded beyond its initial four-wheeler offerings to include multiple vehicle categories. In Bengaluru, the company introduced metro ticketing on its app last year, enabling commuters to plan and book metro journeys seamlessly. Uber also integrated its in-app SOS button with the Bengaluru police in 2025, providing real-time emergency assistance to riders and drivers when required.
