VENGADESH Devotees in large numbers took a holy dip in the Mahamaham tank at temple town Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district on Monday on the occasion of ‘Maasi Maham’ that was celebrated with religious fervour. Processional deities from various Shiva temples in Kumbakonam town were brought in a holy procession to the Mahamaham tank where ‘abhishekams’ were performed to the ‘Asthra Devar’ followed by ‘Theerthavari’. Devotees who had assembled in large numbers at the tank took a holy dip chanting “Sivaya Nama”. The processional deities were taken back to the respective temples after ‘Deeparadhana’ was performed. The decorated car of Sri Chakrapani Swami temple at Kumbakonam and decorated chariots of Sri Rajagopala Swami temple and Sri Adhi Varaga Perumal temple were pulled by devotees on the occasion of ‘Maasi Maham’.
