A hoax bomb threat was received at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Panampilly Nagar here on Monday (March 2, 2026), prompting the police to conduct a thorough inspection of the premises and launch a probe. The threat, issued in two email messages, reportedly claimed that all passport and post office buildings in the city would be destroyed using poisonous gas and improvised explosive devices. The Ernakulam Town South Police, along with the bomb squad, conducted a detailed inspection of the premises after being alerted. Inspections were also carried out at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices. However, nothing suspicious was found, the police said. The police have registered a case in connection with the incident based on a complaint filed by the deputy passport officer.
