University of Hyderabad Vice-Chancellor B.J. Rao on Monday (March 02, 2026) emphasised the need to democratise access to Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly for students from tier-2, tier-2, and rural institutions. Mr. Rao was speaking as the chief guest on the first day of the faculty development programme on ‘Discipline-specific applications of Artificial Intelligence’, organised by the A.P. State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) in collaboration with Andhra University and Commissionerate of Collegiate Education, A.P., at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) from March 02 to 06, 2026. Addressing the inaugural session, APSCHE chairman K. Madhu Murthy said that AI has become a necessity in higher education to make students future ready. Around 200 members are participating in the training, who will then impart this knowledge to institutions in Andhra Pradesh under ‘Training of Trainers programme’, he added. He said that the five-day training programme is being organised to strengthen AI capabilities among faculty members in alignment with National Education Policy-2020 to meet revised curriculum needs.
