Mescom cut off the power supply to the Yennehole Lift Irrigation project, which is built across the Swarna river, due to unpaid electricity bill dues by Karnataka Neeravari Nigama Ltd. in Karkala taluk. | Photo Credit: ANIL KUMAR SASTRY V. Sunil Kumar, Karkala MLA, on Sunday took strong exception to the government’s defaulting on payment of electricity bills of the Yennehole Lift Irrigation Project, which resulted in the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) disconnecting power to the project. In a statement here, Mr. Kumar said, “Such an anti-people decision can only be taken when the government is bankrupt or suffers from visual and hearing impairment.” The lift irrigation project built across the Swarna river at Yennehole between Karkala and Ajekar, was executed solely for irrigation and farmer welfare, he said.
