The run was organised by Udupi District Police on Sunday, (March 1, 2026). The 59-year-old Nassir Hussain, an ex-serviceman, was among those running in the 5K run category. Hussain collapsed after running few meters from the stadium in Ajjarkadu in Udupi town. Onlookers arranged to take him to nearby hospital where he was declared dead, police said. Hussain is survived by his wife, a teacher in Chikkamagaluru, a son and a daughter. Hailing from Adlur in Chikkamagaluru district, Hussain served in Kollur and Shankaranarayana police stations, before his posting to Kundapura Rural. He also served in Chikkamagaluru district too. He was due to retire from service in 2027.
