With the US and Israel launching a major attack on targets across Iran on Saturday, the airlines operating between Kerala and West Asia cancelled all the services with the closure of multiple airspaces in West Asia. A good number of flights that left for Gulf countries in the morning hours were recalled in the wake of airspace closure, and the flights scheduled for the post-noon session from the four airports in Kerala were fully cancelled. In Thiruvananthapuram alone, close to 22 flights were cancelled until 9 p.m. on Saturday night, upsetting the travel plans of around 3,500 Keralites. The officially cancelled flights to and from the Thiruvananthapuram airport include Air India Express, Emirates, Air Arabia, and Etihad Airways flights on routes such as Thiruvananthapuram-Doha, Thiruvananthapuram-Dubai, Thiruvananthapuram-Dammam, Doha-Thiruvananthapuram, Dubai-Thiruvananthapuram, Dubai-Thiruvananthapuram-Dubai, and Abu Dhabi-Thiruvananthapuram until evening. Sources in the airport confirmed that all the flights to GCC countries after the post-noon session remain cancelled in the wake of multiple airspace closures. The airports have also issued precautionary instructions to passengers in the wake of mass cancellations. The mass cancellation of flights left passengers, including business people, job seekers, students, and pilgrims, stranded.
