BJP State unit president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Saturday (February 28) trained his guns on the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), claiming that the organisation is “anti-democratic”, “anti-Indian Constitution” and “anti-women’s safety”.

Opening a ‘Jana Jagratha Sadassu’, a campaign event against fundamentalist politics, at the Muthalakkulam Ground here, he also accused the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) of trying to return to power in the State with the JIH’s help. Mr. Chandrasekhar urged party activists to talk to people about its politics in the coming days. Also, he alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was supporting the communal political line of the Social Democratic Party of India.

“This is a crucial Assembly election which will determine the direction and future of our State. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is not contesting it to get one or two seats. We are trying to bring in change to Kerala’s politics. We are looking at the future,” Mr. Chandrasekhar said.

The BJP leader alleged that though the voters had given enough opportunities to the UDF and the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front in the past decades, they had not been able to develop the State. “Kerala has the highest rate of unemployment and inflation in the country. No investors are willing to set up their projects here,” he alleged. Mr. Chandrasekhar also claimed that the State should be kept safe from fundamentalist politics to ensure its development. “For the past 70 years, we have had Marxist violence. Now, it could be JIH violence. They may control the politics here,” he said.
