The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has held that unless a person has relinquished his religion as per the rites, the request for ‘No Caste, No Religion’ certificate cannot be considered. The court was hearing the petition filed by Chellamanickam of Sivaganga district who sought a direction to the Tirupattur Tahsildar to issue a ‘No Caste, No Religion’ certificate in his favour.
