Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar will inaugurate a 132/33 kV substation at Gannavaram Airport on January 5 (Monday). Built at an estimated cost of ₹30.65 crore, the substation is equipped with two 50 MVA power transformers and advanced protection and control systems, according to an official release. The substation has been established primarily to meet the growing power requirements of Gannavaram International Airport, the upcoming air traffic control tower and the ongoing airport expansion works. It will cater to Gannavaram, Vijayawada Rural and Ungutur mandals, benefiting nearly 3.50 lakh people. The facility is expected to address the long-standing low-voltage problem, reduce transmission losses and minimise power interruptions caused by long 33 kV feeder lines from distant substations. Ministers Vasamsetti Subhash and Kollu Ravindra, MPs Kesineni Srinivas and Vallabhaneni Balashowry, MLA Yarlagadda Venkata Rao, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, among others, are expected to attend the programme.
