The Centre for Post Graduate Studies (CPGS), Kalaburagi, of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), organised a prototype exhibition for first-year students under its Innovation and Design Thinking initiative to mark the celebration of National Science Day on Saturday.

The programme was virtually inaugurated by VTU Vice-Chancellor S. Vidyashankar.

He encouraged students to develop scientific temper, innovative thinking and a strong research orientation. He urged them to create technology-driven solutions to address societal challenges.

The event was presided over by Shubhangi D.C., Regional Director, VTU CPGS, Kalaburagi, who highlighted the importance of experiential learning and innovation in higher education. She appreciated the efforts of students and faculty in organising the exhibition and called upon students to actively engage in research and development activities.

The chief guest, M.S. Jogad, Sir C.V. Raman Young Scientist Awardee, delivered a talk on the theme “Women in Science”. He underscored the significant contributions of women scientists across disciplines and stressed the need to create equal opportunities and supportive ecosystems for women in STEM fields.

The exhibition featured innovative prototypes developed by first-year students to address real-world problem statements. Stakeholders who had provided the problem statements, principals and faculty members of regional VTU-affiliated colleges, representatives from regional schools, and students attended the event. Visitors interacted with participants, appreciated their creativity and offered feedback on the working models.

The programme was coordinated by Shilpa Kodli, Shilpa Joshi, Vikram Patil and Aadarsh Gadale.
