Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R.Anil inaugurated the second Heritage Congress of the Thanalkoottam Society for Cultural Heritage here on Sunday. Mr.Anil said that the capital needs an institution for heritage studies and research. Heritage Congress Chairperson M.G.Sasibhooshan presided over the function. Filmmaker Shyama Prasad, historian T.P. Sankarankutty Nair and others spoke. A documentary film festival was held as part of the event. Rani Gaidinliu, directed by S.V. Deepak and Dimple Durgar for the NFDC, was the opening film, followed by screenings of the documentaries Sandhya Santhwanam, Nanchinad, Gurudev, Ennittum Kanthalloorshala and Akam. The seminars as part of the Heritage Congress will be held on January 10 and 11 at the Thanjavur Ammaveedu in West Fort. Archaeologist K.K. Muhammed will deliver the keynote address at the seminar on January 10.
