A review meeting on eradicating child labour was held at the Salem Collectorate on Saturday (February 28, 2026). The meeting was presided over by the chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TNCPCR), Pudukkottai Vijaya. TNCPCR officials said that the Commission has powers equivalent to a civil court to protect children from violations of their rights and to investigate cases. Furthermore, it has the power to establish and monitor children’s courts to expeditiously investigate crimes against children and violations of rights by requesting relevant documents from the police, courts, and other offices. The Commission functions with powers including recommending appropriate relief and rehabilitation measures to the government or the relevant authorities for children affected by violations.
