Tensions erupted at a cinema hall in Kottayam on Saturday when the screening of the film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond had to be abruptly stopped following a protest by DYFI activists. The incident took place at Anashwara Theatre, where the first show began at 11 a.m. Just as the film’s first half concluded around noon, the activists arrived, alleging that the film misrepresented the State’s secular credentials. Only 24 viewers had attended the screening. The protesters urged the audience to leave the theatre and assured that their ticket money would be refunded. When a couple of viewers refused to step out, the protest briefly escalated before they eventually withdrew. During the demonstration, the activists also tore down and damaged posters of the film, further intensifying the scene. The police were present at the theatre throughout the incident. In view of the protest, the theatre subsequently cancelled the evening shows scheduled for 5.45 p.m. and 8.45 p.m. Published – February 28, 2026 05:07 pm IST Share this: Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email More Click to print (Opens in new window) Print Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window) Pocket Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon Click to share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window) Nextdoor Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky Like this:Like Loading...
