Booker Prize-winning author Arundhati Roy has been selected for the Malayattoor Foundation’s maiden award for overall contributions. The award, instituted in memory of writer Malayattoor Ramakrishan, consists of a purse of ₹50,000 and a statuette designed by artist B.D. Dethan. Ms. Roy was selected by a jury chaired by literary critic V. Rajakrishnan. Writer Perumbadavam Sreedharan is the chairman of the Malayattoor Foundation. Mr. Dethan, journalist and writer C. Rahim, and foundation secretary P.R. Sreekumar were the jury members. Ms. Roy will be presented the award at a function in Thiruvananthapuram, the foundation said on Sunday.
