The parents of B. Pharmacy student Ayesha Meera, who was raped and murdered at a hostel in Ibrahimpatnam on the outskirts of Vijayawada in 2007, said on Friday (February 27) that they have not given their consent for the closure of the case. The couple, Shamshad Begum and Syed Iqbal Basha, blamed the investigating agencies for not booking the culprit 19 years into the incident. The clarification comes a week after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Vijayawada accepted a report by the investigating agency seeking closure of further proceedings in the case citing an absence of sustainable evidence and unwillingness of the parents to pursue additional remedies. Ms. Shamshad Begum said they have not given any consent for closure of the proceedings of the case. “We are not closing the case and will fight for justice,” Ayesha Meera’s mother told the media after receiving her daughter’s mortal remains here. The remains of the deceased’s body was exhumed by the CBI in 2019 for a re-post-mortem examination. “Such incidents shouldn’t repeat, and no parents should suffer like us,” Mr. Iqbal said.
