Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) handed over the mortal remains of the 17-year-old B. Pharmacy student Syed Ayesha Meera to her parents Shamshad Begum and Syed Iqbal Basha here on Friday (February 27). It was an emotional moment for the parents.

Together with the activists of some democratic organisations, they took out a protest rally from the court to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue in the city. The police said they had no permission to take out the rally and tried to stop them.

During the rally, Ms. Shamshad Begum and Mr. Iqbal Basha were seen carrying a banner of their daughter. A.P. Mahila Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja, who met the parents of the girl recently, thanked the government for returning the mortal remains of the girl. Later, the girl’s family members proceeded to their native place of Tenali in Guntur district.

Ayesha Meera was allegedly raped and murdered at Sri Durga Ladies Hostel in Ibrahimpatnam. Her body was seen in a pool of blood in the toilet of the hostel on December 27, 2007.
