More than 100 villagers, along with school students, staged a road blockade at Pasakkuttai Pirivu in Thingalur panchayat of Thalavadi Union on Friday, demanding regular drinking water supply and adequate bus connectivity to their villages. Residents of Chikkanandi, D.P. Thotti and N.S. Puram, comprising over 100 families, took part in the protest. They alleged that they had not received regular drinking water supply for over two months. Despite submitting repeated petitions to panchayat authorities, no remedial steps had been taken so far, they claimed. They further pointed out the absence of proper bus services to the interior villages. School students, they said, were compelled to walk nearly 3 km every day to reach the nearest bus stop. Requests for operating bus services within the villages had not evoked any response from the authorities.
