Uproar after local right wing Hindu activists in Muzaffarnagar opposed a person from Muslim community buying a house in Gaushala Pashmi, a predominantly Hindu locality. The Muslim family accuses the activists of creating unnecessary disturbances and threatening the family with dire consequences. “In the recent past on different occasions a group of individuals, four-five known and 15-20 unknown individuals came to my house and forcefully asked us to leave the place and threatened us with dire consequences”.

They wrongly claimed the house purchase an instance of ‘house jihad’ and said there is no need of Muslim people in a Hindu locality. They also put up posters of continuous meeting in the locality to build pressure on us and held demonstration against us,” said Ali Hasan, who owns the house. Both sides have also lodged complaints against each other of threatening and creating nuisance at the Kotwali police station.

The opposition Congress hit out at the State government for emboldening anti-social elements who create communal division in U.P. “We will send a party delegation in the colony to help the victim side. It is a known fact that organised pattern is at play across U.P. to disturb communal harmony and terrorize minorities, this incident of disturbing a Muslim for buying a property in a Hindu dominated colony is the latest of many such incidents of communal polarisation elements in the ruling BJP and RSS emboldens such anti-social elements, when Chief Minister makes communal statement, the fringe groups feel no one can dare to take action against them”.

“The administration must act decisively to build public trust in situations which impact communal harmony,” said Anil Yadav, a senior U.P. Congress leader.
