A Kerala Students Union (KSU) leader’s house was allegedly attacked using a country bomb at Thiruvallur, near Vadakara, in Kozhikode district of Kerala early on Friday. The attack, allegedly by Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers, took place around 2.30 a.m. at the house of KSU Kozhikode district secretary Bithul Balan.

Police sources said the KSU leader who was allegedly involved in attacking Health Minister Veena George had been remanded in judicial custody. The latest incident could be a retaliation as part of the Statewide agitation flaying the attack on the Minister, they said.

As part of the continuing investigation, the police recovered the CCTV visuals of the incident. Police said efforts were on to identify the suspects. They said altogether 36 cases were registered in Kozhikode district in connection with various clashes between Congress and CPI(M) workers in the last two days.

Senior Congress leaders who flayed the latest incident alleged that the CPI(M) and its youth organisations were trying to “spread violence across the State in the name of an unreal incident.” They said they would visit the house of the KSU leader to review the situation.
