The event traversed from Kalpakkam Township to the Five Rathas at Mamallapuram. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT The General Services Organisation (GSO), Kalpakkam, a unit of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), organised a Swachhata Rath Yatra and cycle rally on Thursday. The event traversed from Kalpakkam Township to the Five Rathas at Mamallapuram. The Rath Yatra was flagged off by Sreekumar G. Pillai, Director, GSO & IGCAR, and Sanjay A. Lathkar, Additional Director General (Security), DAE. The specially converted “Swachhata Rath” (a bus with exhibits) featured innovative miniatures showcasing DAE-developed technologies in action: Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) model, demonstrating clean nuclear energy, Hybrid Granular Sequential Batch Reactor (hgSBR), a cutting-edge wastewater treatment system for efficient, modern purification, an official release said. Wealth from waste initiatives, pioneered by DAE, and actively deployed in Kalpakkam and Anupuram Townships, were also exhibited. The cycle rally complemented the Yatra, engaging participants in plogging and cleanliness pledges, with special outreach to local school children. The event underscored GSO’s commitment to Swachhata Pakhwada, blending public awareness with atomic research’s contributions to environmental stewardship,” it said.
