13-year-old girl with rare congenital issues successfully treated at city hospital

A team of doctors at Apollo Speciality Hospital here successfully treated a rare and complex congenital vascular condition of a 13-year-old girl from Theni through timely diagnosis and advanced surgical care, thereby preventing life-threatening complications.

A contrast CT scan done on the girl with a delayed growth and breathing difficulties revealed an extremely rare congenital condition called abernethy malformation, in which blood meant to pass through the liver bypasses it and flows directly into the heart due to an abnormal vascular connection.
