Four persons, including three juveniles and a scrap dealer, were arrested in connection with the alleged desecration of a Hanuman temple and theft of a copper vessel at Barkas, Chandrayangutta.

The receiver of the stolen property was identified as Mohd Abdul Waheed, 60, a scrap dealer residing at Edi Bazar, Balanagar.

Police said the three children in conflict with law, all natives of Myanmar and residing at Royal Colony, Balapur, were involved in the theft.

According to the police, the incident came to light early on Tuesday (February 24) when local residents noticed that the lock of Sri Dwimukha Anjaneya Swamy Temple had been broken and a copper vessel stolen. Based on a complaint lodged by J. Naveen Kumar, a case was registered at Chandrayangutta police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

During the investigation, the officers verified CCTV footage from nearby areas, which showed the three juveniles moving in a suspicious manner carrying items in a polythene bag. They were apprehended from Royal Colony, Balapur, and during questioning allegedly confessed to breaking the temple lock with a stone, entering the premises, stealing the copper vessel and damaging the idol.

Police said the juveniles were produced before the V Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court at Nampally on Thursday at about 9.30 a.m. The scrap dealer was also produced before the court.
