Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday (February 25) reviewed the diarrhoea outbreak in Srikakulam district and the reported milk contamination in Rajamahendravaram and directed officials to ensure strict monitoring and prevent such incidents.

During the meeting with senior Health Department officials and district authorities, he sought updates on the condition of patients undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

The officials informed him that in the Srikakulam outbreak, the condition of two patients, being treated at GEMS Hospital, remained critical. One patient was on ventilator support, and the other was undergoing dialysis. Mr. Chandrababu Naidu instructed the authorities to give them special medical attention.

In total, 76 people were receiving treatment in connection with the outbreak as of Wednesday. Except for the two, the condition of all other patients was reported to be stable. Officials said water supply through the pipeline suspected to have caused the outbreak had been suspended and that safe drinking water was being provided.

As for the milk contamination in Rajamahendravaram, the officials informed the Chief Minister that affected individuals were under medical observation and that milk samples had been sent for laboratory analysis.

Emphasising that public health must remain the government’s highest priority, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu directed the officials to avoid any negligence in surveillance and response mechanisms. He called for coordinated action from the departments to strengthen preventive mechanisms.
