Muzhakkunnu police have registered a case after a stray dog was beaten to death by a group of persons at Ayyapankavu in Muzhakkunnu here following the circulation of visuals of the incident on social media. According to the police, the incident is suspected to have occurred on a day prior to February 1, 2026. The accused are alleged to have unlawfully assembled with the intention of committing the offence and attacked the dog using a wooden stick causing fatal injuries. The Muzhakkunnu police station received a complaint via email on February 3, 2026, from Parvati J.R, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram, stating that footage of the dog being beaten to death within the station limits had been widely shared online. Based on the complaint, permission was granted by the Deputy Superintendent of Police Peravoor to conduct a preliminary inquiry. Sub-Inspector Viju Vakeri was assigned to carry out the investigation. Following the inquiry, the officer reported that the alleged incident had taken place, leading to the formal registration of a case. The police have registered a case against unknown people under section 189(2), 191(2), 191(3), and 325 read with 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with section 11(1)(a) and 11(1)(I) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960.
