M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) chairperson and former WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan on Tuesday said that India must shift from disease-centred healthcare to a broader well-being framework to ensure disease prevention and nutrition security for all.

Delivering a memorial oration in honour of the late ophthalmologist S.S. Badrinath at Sankara Nethralaya, Dr. Swaminathan paid tribute to his pioneering contributions in building the institution and expanding eye-care outreach. She described him as part of a generation driven by a “missionary devotion” to public service, combining clinical excellence, research, and compassion.
