The foundation stone for the Warangal airport in Telangana is likely to be laid in June this year, with the design, scope of work and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) in the final stage of preparation, Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Ram Mohan Naidu said on Tuesday.

He conveyed the update to his cabinet colleague, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, during a meeting held in New Delhi. Officials informed the Ministers that 953 acres of land earmarked for the project are now fully available, and a 2,500‑metre runway is being planned at the site.

The two Ministers held detailed discussions with Civil Aviation Secretary S.K. Sinha and Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Vipin Kumar on the progress of airport development projects in Telangana, including those in Adilabad and Peddapalli.

For the Adilabad airport, land acquisition has not yet begun; however, land currently under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defence will be utilised for runway construction. Procedures for operating the airport under a joint‑usage model between the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Defence will be finalised soon, officials said.

The AAI Chairman also informed the Ministers that 980 acres have been identified for the Peddapalli airport project and that a feasibility study is presently under way. The Ministers noted that the development of these airports would significantly enhance air connectivity, attract investment, boost industrial growth, and generate employment opportunities in Telangana.

They reiterated the Central government’s commitment to strengthening aviation infrastructure in the State and emphasised the need for faster execution, improved Centre–State coordination, and the timely resolution of administrative and technical issues, according to a press release.
