A 60-year-old woman and her 16-year-old granddaughter were stabbed to death by a youth near Negamam in Coimbatore district on Monday. The deceased have been identified as M. Mylathal and her granddaughter B. Kowsy of Kondegoundanpalayam near Negamam. The police said that the crime took place around 7.15 p.m. when Mylathal, Kowsy, her sister B. Haritha (17) and the girls’ mother B. Kalaiarasi were at their residence. A youth came to the house, had a heated argument with them and stabbed Kowsy. Mylathal and Haritha suffered stabs when they intervened. The assailant escaped before neighbours reached the house, after hearing screams. According to the police, Mylathal and Kowsy died before reaching District Headquarters Hospital, Pollachi. Haritha was admitted for treatment. Six special teams were formed to trace the assailant.
