Led by Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar, special Shakti teams on Monday conducted awareness programmes across educational institutions and public spaces in Kadiri, Penukonda, Dharmavaram, Hindupur, and Puttaparthi divisions. Speaking at an outreach programme here, the SP explained the girl students how the app could be used as an effective safety tool during emergencies and stressed the need to instal it on their mobile phones. The SP also educated the participants on key emergency helplines, including Dial 100 and 112 for immediate police assistance, childline 1098, domestic violence helpline 181, women harassment helpline 1091, and the cybercrime toll-free number 1930. Mr. Satish Kumar advised the women and girl students to download the app on their mobile phones using their personal details and have access to emergency contact numbers. Officials said that once the SOS button or Dial 112 feature was triggered, the alert would reach the nearest police unit, enabling officers to reach the spot within ten minutes and take prompt action. “Teachers and the field staff of the ICDS, Medical and Health Department could play a vital role in promoting the app among the target group, particularly in the rural areas,” the SP said.
