The partial closure of the entry and exit points of Heber Road near the District Court Roundabout to facilitate the reconstruction of storm-water drains along Parangiri Velu Park has resulted in heavy traffic congestion, inconveniencing motorists, particularly during peak hours.

Tiruchi Corporation, on February 19, began work to repair a faulty drain that had been causing frequent seepage in the area.

According to officials, the existing culvert on the stretch carries wastewater and surplus rainwater from Bharathidasan Road towards the district court. As the culvert was inadequate to handle the increased volume of water seepage was reported near the park.

Officials said the work was being expedited, considering the heavy vehicular movement on the stretch, and was expected to be completed within two days.

The police have placed barricades near the District Court Complex to regulate vehicular traffic. However, confusion prevails among motorists.

Commuters said the bottleneck had been particularly severe during the morning and evening rush hours with vehicles lining up along the approach roads.
