Tamil Nadu electorate stands at 5.67 crore after Special Intensive Revision

Tamil Nadu had more than 5.67 crore electors as the Election Commission of India published the final electoral rolls of the State on Monday (February 23, 2026) after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The list includes 2,89,60,838 women, 2,77,38,925 men, and 7,617 third-gender electors. Since the publication of the draft rolls last December, 27.53 lakh eligible electors have been included and 4.23 lakh ineligible electors deleted. In total, the electorate went up by about 24 lakh since the draft rolls were published.

About 74 lakh entries have been deleted since October last when the EC froze the rolls that had 6.41 crore electors. When the draft rolls were published in December last year, there were 5.43 crore voters. During the claims and objections period, 27,85,195 Form 6 applications were submitted and 27,53,796 of them were accepted. For objections and deletions, 4,38,425 forms were submitted and 4,23,172 of them were accepted.

The Sholinganallur Assembly constituency in Chengalpattu district continues to have the highest number of electors, with 5,36,991, and the Harbour constituency in Chennai district has the lowest number of voters, with 1,16,896.

Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik disclosed these details after the the final rolls were published. At a press conference, she said the number of electors in the age group of 18-19 were 12.51 lakh. The number of electors marked as persons with disability was 4.63 lakh. The final rolls also have 3.99 lakh senior citizen electors (85+).

Electors could check their names on https://elections.tn.gov.in where the final rolls have been uploaded. Appeals against the decision of the Electoral Registration Officer could be filed before the District Magistrate within 15 days under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, read with Rule 27 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.

“Even now, you could submit Form 6 for inclusion or forms if you want any changes. Appeal, if any, could also be made now,” said Ms. Patnaik. The first appeal could be filed with the District Election Officer and the second appeal could be filed with the Chief Electoral Officer. For inclusion, one could submit Form 6 to the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or apply online.

There is no change in the number of polling booths, which remains at 75,032. During the claims and objections period, about 7.40 lakh people in the 18-19 age group were included, she said. To a question on the possible deletion of entries from the final rolls, Ms. Patnaik said, “Continuous update is ongoing.”

As for Form 8, Ms. Patnaik said 3,400 applications were received and 3,351 were disposed of. To a question on the dispatch of EPIC cards to the electors, she said the process had commenced and efforts were being made to deliver them within 15 days.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will visit the State on February 26 and 27. Ms. Patnaik said he would meet the District Election Officers and the Superintendents of Police concerned, the Commissioners of Police, the Inspectors-General of Police, officials of 23 enforcement agencies, and representatives of political parties.
