Pinarayi inaugurates new multi-storied building of RCC

The government has intervened in the best of manner to ensure that all modern cancer care facilities have been made available in the public sector, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

He said that several advanced medical technologies, including the first robotic surgery unit in the public sector, HIPEC treatment system, clinical laboratory tracking system, and surface-guided radiation therapy used in radiation treatment are now available at the Regional Cancer Centre.

The government has established sophisticated facilities, including cath labs, Gallium Scan, PET-CT Scan, KV imaging-enabled Ring Gantry Linear Accelerator, advanced brachytherapy machine for prostate cancer treatment, digital mammography machine, and paediatric autologous stem cell transplant services at RCC, Mr. Vijayan said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the new multi-storey building at RCC and the new Kerala Centre for Disease Control (K-CDC) facility.

The new building, constructed at a cost of ₹242 crore, with a built-up area of 3,30,117 sq ft, was an imperative to reduce overcrowding and provide better treatment facilities to the 2.5 lakh-odd patients seeking care at RCC annually.

The new building adds 200 extra patient beds as well as two levels of parking facilities also. The building has been constructed in compliance with green protocols and utilises solar energy as far as possible.

RCC has also been allotted 12 acres at Pulayanarkotta for setting up a second campus

Health Minister Veena George, who presided over the function, said that over 2,000 beds were available for cancer care in the public sector now.

Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty, Kadakampally Surendran, K. Ansalan, and C.K. Hareendran, all MLAs and senior Health officials were present.
