Three achievers from different fields, 104-year-old writer C. Mahadevappa, critic G. Ramakrishna and State Information Commissioner H.C. Sathyan, have been selected for the Nadoja honorary degree presented by Kannada University, Hampi.

Addressing a press conference on the university campus on Monday, Vice-Chancellor D.V. Paramashivamurthy said that Governor and Chancellor Thaawarchand Gehlot will present the honours at the 34th convocation of the university to be held at the Navaranga open-air theatre on campus on Tuesday.

Higher Education Minister and Pro-Chancellor M.C. Sudhakar will confer Ph.D degrees on the candidates. Noted writer K. Marulasiddappa will deliver the convocation address.

A total of 107 candidates will receive Ph.D degrees. Of this, 62 are from the Faculty of Languages, 43 from the Faculty of Social Sciences and two from the Faculty of Fine Arts.

As many as 122 candidates from eight departments will be awarded postgraduate degrees and certificates, Dr. Paramashivamurthy said.

The research topics this year include studies on marginalised tribes, women’s narrative literature, Dalit women, Adivasis, the Banjara community, backward classes, farmers and agriculture, rural development, folklore and issues concerning senior citizens.

A student from the Mukri tribal community C.P. Shivachandra has completed research on the “Oral literature of the Mukri community”, the Vice-Chancellor added.
