The 195th birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, a pioneer of women’s education, was commemorated across Tirupati, Nellore, and Prakasam districts on Saturday (January 03, 2026). Several political leaders and educationists paid tributes to the social reformer and lauded her services to the society.

Tirupati MLA Arani Srinivasulu unveiled the statue of Savitribai Phule at Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalaya (SPMVV). The event was organised under the auspices of BC Sangharshana Samiti. MP Maddila Gurumurthy, MLC Sipai Subrahmanyam and Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr. Sirisha were also present on the occasion.

In SPSR Nellore district, the birth anniversary was celebrated with great fervor at Vikrama Simhapuri University (VSU) Kakatur campus. VSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Allam Srinivasa Rao said that Savitribai Phule fought courageously against the inhuman practices like ‘Sati’, and emphasised the necessity of women’s education as well as empowerment.

On the occasion, the members of Prakasam District B.C. Coordination Committee staged a dharna in Ongole, demanding that the Central and State governments immediately implement the assurances given by the respective leaders during elections for the welfare of the women.

Botta Subba Rao, president of the committee, said, “Caste census must be conducted to provide opportunities to the BCs in education, employment, and local body elections. As per the poll promises, the Alliance government should implement the BC Protection Act, and give ₹1,500 per month to every woman above 18 years under the Aadabidda Nidhi Scheme.”
