The Telangana Tourism department has commissioned a feasibility survey to upgrade infrastructure and amenities at Vadapalli, a key pilgrimage centre in Nalgonda district, while also pushing ahead with expansion plans for Buddhavanam near Nagarjunasagar, Minister for Tourism and Culture Jupally Krishna Rao told the Legislative Council on Saturday (January 3). Replying to questions raised by Kethavath Shankar during Question Hour, the Minister said Vadapalli, located at the confluence of the Krishna and Musi rivers, holds major religious and tourism potential. “The Sri Veeranarayana Swamy Temple at the site attracts large numbers of devotees, particularly during the Kartika month and on festival days. The proposed feasibility study will assess requirements for basic infrastructure, pilgrim amenities and visitor facilities aimed at improving the overall experience for devotees and tourists,” he said. On Buddhavanam, the Minister said the project near Nagarjunasagar was being developed as a flagship destination showcasing the State’s Buddhist heritage. He informed that ₹24.84 crore has been sanctioned under the Central government’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme for the creation of a Digital Experience Centre at Buddhavanam, with construction currently under way. “In addition, the government is in the process of finalising plans to set up Buddhist monasteries, meditation centres and educational institutions at the site through the public private partnership model,” he added.
