TVK general secretary (election campaign management) Aadhav Arjuna. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) general secretary (election campaign management) Aadhav Arjuna on Sunday claimed that party president Vijay’s intention was to contest from an Assembly segment in north Chennai and moved a resolution for the actor-politician to contest from the Perambur Assembly constituency. ‘For development’ Speaking at a party meeting in Perambur, he said Mr. Vijay had expressed his desire to contest from a seat “plagued by severe poverty, unemployment among youth, lack of educational opportunities for women, and riddled with alcoholism and drug addiction”, with a vision of transforming it into a developed region such as Singapore. “North Chennai suffers from poverty. The DMK fostered rowdyism here for its gains,” Mr. Arjuna claimed. “We [party members] also wish he would contest either from Kolathur or Radhakrishnan Nagar, as well. Since north Chennai had been consistently neglected and sidelined by the DMK for over 50 years, our leader [Mr. Vijay] is the only one capable of breaking this cycle,” the TVK leader added.
