The State government on Sunday (February 22) issued orders extending the suspension of IPS officer P.V. Sunil Kumar, who is facing criminal charges. Mr. Sunil Kumar is facing allegations of custodial torture and for going on multiple foreign trips without obtaining permission from the government. The suspended IPS officer was also facing a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly misusing the AgriGold relief funds. Sunil Kumar also allegedly resorted to irregularities in purchasing evidence recording devices. Based on the recommendations of the review committee, the suspension of Sunil Kumar, which was to expire on February 24, has been extended by the government till his retirement or termination of criminal charges filed against him.
