He said Bangladesh and this part of the region would immensely prosper in business, culture and tourism if the situation across the border remains calm and democratic under a democratic movement. The Minister was speaking on Sunday (February 22, 2026), a day after the trial run of the Agartala-Kolkata via Dhaka bus service that had remained stalled for over a year. The Agartala-Dhaka bus service also commenced, though with limited passengers. “We have never treated Bangladesh as an enemy country, but as a friendly nation. Their citizens are our brothers and sisters,” he said, adding that events that took place over one and half years in the neighbouring country were contrary to our expectations, in fact alarming. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the new Prime Minister of Bangladesh and offered all-round cooperation, he said. The Minister assured that the bus services from both sides would continue without any hindrance. Mr. Chowdhury informed that the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala would soon start issuing visas of all categories and expressed hope that a normal flow of passengers would resume soon.
