The Kurnool Municipal Corporation has decided to crack the whip on the owners of unauthorised buildings who do not apply for Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) before the end of the scheme on March 11. KMC Commissioner P. Viswanatha, in a recent review on the progress of BPS and Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) in the city, said though 20,000 unauthorised buildings were identified, notices were served on only 9,000 owners by February 19. He directed officials to complete the process of serving notices to the remaining 11,000 identified building owners at the earliest. He wanted the identified buildings to be marked `BPS-2025’ with red paint. Mr. Viswanatha asked officials to explain to the owners of unauthorised buildings and layouts the action that will be taken against such constructions or layouts after the BPS and LRS scheme ends. Mr. Viswanatha said he would soon start surprise checks in the city and take action against officials concerned, including the planning secretary and building inspectors, who fail to serve notices on the identified owners. Meanwhile, the KMC got a revenue of ₹11.84 crore through the 2,501 applications for LRS while another ₹1.92 crore revenue was generated from the 912 BPS applications. Corporation officials said they have identified 360 unauthorised layouts.
