The ‘Drugs Pai Dandayatra’ cycle rally organised to check drugs and ganja peddling and consumption reached several villages in NTR Police Commissionerate.

Five women police officers have been pedalling to create awareness on the ill-effects of drugs and ganja. The programme is being jointly organised by police, Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) and other department officials.

“The 37-day cycle rally reached Vatsavai and neighbouring villages on Sunday, the 27th day,” said Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu.

Public representatives, Revenue, Prohibition and Excise Department officials, students of various education institutions, women and youth participated in the rally.

“The response for Drugs Pai Dandayatra has been overwhelming. Many youth and women are voluntarily participating in the rally,” Mr. Rajasekhar Babu said.

The police, in association with EAGLE, and NGOs, is organising public meetings, debates and discussions to educate public on adverse effects of drug abuse, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) K.G.V. Saritha, who is monitoring the 500-km rally.

The five women police explained to the villagers the ill-effects and legal consequences of using and supplying drugs, said Ms. Saritha.
