Two persons including a woman drowned in the Kanathur beach on Saturday (February 21, 2026) evening. A senior officer of the Tambaram Police Commissionerate said a group of people working in a private company had come on a picnic to the Kanathur beach on East Coast Road (ECR) near Chennai on Saturday evening. They were standing in the waters when a man named Jay and woman identified as Mayuri were dragged into the sea by a huge wave. The others in the group pulled out Mayuri and rushed her to a private hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Kanathur police, with the help of the local fishermen, are searching for Jay.
