A 60-year-old man died after allegedly falling into an uncovered storm-water drain in Tiruvallur on Saturday. The deceased, G. Babu, a native of Villupuram, worked as a porter at the Tiruvallur market. The police said Babu had slipped into the drain, filled with about two feet of water, near the District Health Office on Vadakku Raja Veethi while returning home from work. About an hour later, passersby spotted him and tried to rescue him. On being alerted, the police went to the spot and pulled him out in an unconscious state. They shifted him to the Tiruvallur Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body has been sent for a post-mortem.
