A consortium of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on Saturday conducted a workshop highlighting climate risks and resilience strategies for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Tamil Nadu.

The event brought together industry representatives, journalists, and policy stakeholders to examine how climate change is reshaping MSME operations and supply chains.

The workshop was conducted by FaMe TN, Auroville Consulting, Poovulagin Nanbargal, and Asar Social Impact Advisors.

The speakers said MSMEs — spanning textiles, engineering, food processing and automotive components — form the backbone of the State’s industrial economy and support millions of livelihoods. However, rising temperatures, floods, and water stress are increasingly disrupting production, logistics, and worker productivity.

Experts touched upon adaptation measures such as heat-risk management, climate-resilient infrastructure, improved water efficiency and adoption of clean energy solutions, including rooftop solar.

They also discussed the growing importance of emission reporting and access to climate finance, particularly for export-oriented firms.

A roundtable with media professionals examined gaps in coverage of MSME climate challenges and opportunities to strengthen public narratives. It was said that climate preparedness can enhance business continuity, protect workers and improve competitiveness in sustainability-conscious markets.
