H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister in-charge of Mysuru district and T. Narasipura MLA, on Saturday, said that the Thurganuru branch canal, which is the tail-end of the Visvesvaraya Canal, was constructed in 1943. With its modernisation, water will be made available to nearly 1,800 acres of agricultural land, he added.

He was speaking after performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the Thurganuru Extension, Ukkalagere, and Halavara branch canal works in the T. Narasipura Assembly constituency at Chidravalli. The works are being taken up at a cost of ₹91.33 crore.

The Minister said a detailed survey had been conducted regarding the development of the Thurganuru canal. Expressing gratitude, he thanked the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for showing interest in the project after nearly 70 years and for sanctioning funds for its implementation.

He stated that the long-pending issues in the Nanjapura Lift Irrigation Project, which have persisted since its inception, would be addressed in the current financial year. An allocation of around ₹20 crore will be provided to repair all the motors under the project, he added.

The Minister expressed confidence that with the development works, more than 100 cusecs of water would flow to villages in Sosale Hobli.
