Pendurthi MLA Panchakarla Ramesh Babu on Saturday (February 21) inspected the roads damaged by heavy vehicles and discussed the air pollution caused by coal dust and fly ash at Lankelapalem region.

He visited the pothole-ridden roads from Lankelapalem Junction to Pedamusidivada and the Lankelapalem flyover and found that many lorries carrying fly ash and coal were passing through route. He also checked the amount of coal dust and fly ash accumulated on roadsides due to the frequent movement of these vehicles.

The MLA later said the roads were damaged because of the scores of overloaded lorries plying on them. He directed the officials concerned to summon the managements of the companies and start the repair, in coordination with the Roads and Buildings department, within 2-3 days.

Pointing out that many residents and commercial establishments were suffering because of the pollution caused by the heavy vehicles carrying coal dust and fly ash, he warned that, if it continued, people might launch protests.

He urged the managements to come forward voluntarily and complete the repairs. He made it clear that while industrial units were necessary, public health couldn’t be compromised for business interests.
